Fred grew up on a remote farm in Kenya. After a stint in the Second World War, he joined the Game Department as a game control officer. This provided him with a wealth of experience which he later used in his professional hunting career. He joined Ker & Downey Safaris, hunting mainly in Kenya and Tanzania and later in Botswana.
